The Psychedelic Opportunity for Behavioral Health Providers

Whitepaper

The first FDA-approved psychedelic drug in U.S. history could hit the market next year. Compass Pathways COMP360 is one of several psychedelic drugs with a voucher for accelerated FDA review and a potential first mover indicative of the coming psychedelic wave.

As the political winds have continued to shift, the Trump Administration, HHS, and FDA are signaling a more receptive tone, with the treatment of mental health disorders a priority.

The global peak TAM for mental health disorders treatable by psychedelics is upwards of $74 billion. To penetrate this market, existing mental health clinic networks must be refined for treatment delivery. If they do, there is a tremendous opportunity for operators. It took Spravato six years to reach $1 billion in sales; it will likely take less time for COMP360.

The question for behavioral health providers today is not if but how to prepare for this watershed moment as the bottleneck shifts from drug development to care delivery.

This white paper by Melvyn Threatt-Peters explores the efficacy of psychedelics, treatment frameworks, the competitive landscape, and COMP360’s potential commercialization pathway against Spravato – most importantly however, it assesses the implications of emerging psychedelic treatments to mental health and SUD providers, and how they can prepare to meet the moment.
